MOKiN 9-in-1 USB-C Dock Review: How to get more ports

If you are looking to output your laptop display to dual or triple monitors or you are just wanting to increase the number of ports you have available you will have probably come across a dock solution. The purpose of a dock is to occupy one of the ports on your laptop and in return provide a number of additional ports housed within it that you can connect to. The MOKiN 9-in-1 USB-C dock from Amazon is a device that provides this type of functionality. At the time of writing this review, the dock was priced at £34.99. Here is our review of it.

Should You Buy It?

Pros

  • Simple to set up and use
  • Good range of ports

Cons

  • Short USB-C connection cable
  • No ethernet port

MOKiN 9-in-1 USB-C Dock: Design

The design of the MOKiN dock is rather simple and that’s all it needs to be. It’s quite a compact main unit with ports housed on 3 of the 4 sides. The remaining side has the USB-C connection cable coming from it. MOKiN opted for a dark grey, metal finish to the body of the dock which makes it look quite sleek. One thing I do dislike about the MOKiN 9-in-1 USB-C dock is that the USB-C connection cable that is used to connect to your laptop is quite short. This can make it difficult if you want to move your laptop around your desk as the dock will have to move with it. This can be quite annoying and can also mess up your cable management.

MOKiN 9-in-1 USB-C Dock: Ports

The main factor when choosing a dock is the ports it provides. Most modern-day laptops are pretty scarce when it comes to ports on offer so a lot of docks try to cram in as many ports as possible. The MOKiN 9-in-1 USB-C dock has the following ports available;

  • HDMI x 2
  • DisplayPort x 1
  • USB-A 2.0 x 2
  • USB-A 3.0 x 1
  • USB-C Pass-through (Charging Only) x 1
  • SD Card Slot x 1
  • Micro SD Card Slot x 1

As you can see from the ports the MOKiN dock does provide the option to output via 3 display ports, 2 HDMI ports and a DisplayPort. This makes it a great option if you are looking to connect to multiple monitors. If you are a Mac user beware that this dock won’t let you extend your laptop display on any additional monitors it will only duplicate. Windows 10 users won’t have this problem and will be able to extend their laptop display across any additional screens.

One port that is missing is an ethernet port, which would have been a nice

MOKiN 9-in-1 USB-C Dock: Final Thoughts

All in all the MOKiN 9-in-1 USB-C dock does what it says. It provides additional ports from your laptops USB-C port and also gives you the option to add multiple monitors to your setup. This is what I have used the dock for and it works great. I haven’t had any issues with it so far. The only criticism I have of the MOKiN 9-in-1 USB-C dock is that its connection cable is a bit short. I would have liked to have seen this be a bit longer in order to have more freedom to move your laptop around the desk without pulling on the dock.
